Tips For Denture Wearers
Once you have your dentures, we’ll tell you all about the proper care and cleaning that are essential to maintain their longevity and your oral health. Here’s a refresher! For any questions or advice, reach out to us today, we can guide you every step of the way!
Rinse After Eating
One of the most important steps in denture care is rinsing your dentures after every meal. This helps to remove food particles and debris that can cause stains and bacteria buildup. Be gentle to avoid damaging your dentures while rinsing.
Brush Daily with a Denture Cleaner
Just like natural teeth, dentures need daily brushing to remove plaque and food particles. Use a soft-bristled brush and a non-abrasive toothpaste designed for dentures, to avoid scratching the surface. Avoid using regular toothpaste, as it can be too harsh. Be sure to clean all surfaces, including the areas that come into contact with your gums.
Soak Dentures Overnight
When you are not wearing your dentures, it is important to keep them moist to maintain their shape. Soak them overnight in a mild denture-soaking solution. This helps to keep them clean and free from bacteria while ensuring they do not dry out or warp.
Handle Dentures with Care
Dentures are delicate and can break if dropped. Always handle them over a soft surface, like a towel or sink filled with water, when cleaning or removing them.
Schedule Regular Check-ups
Regular check-ups with our expert denturist ensure that your dentures continue to fit properly and are functioning well. At Community Denture Centre, we are here to answer any questions on ongoing denture care and make any adjustments as needed.
Our Canadian Government Plan Coverage
Don’t forget the new Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) that came into effect late in 2023, can provide financial assistance for dentures. For more information on what is covered, click here.
